I am passionate about life long learning. This is why I chose education and development as a profession way back in 1990 and continue to add to and refine what I do. It is also why we chose the name Snowball: to suggest growing from something small into something really big that can keep on getting bigger and bigger. This is important not only for me, but the people I work with, who are in turn inspired to make a difference in their lives. I am proud that I am still working with some of my first clients.

In 1997, I teamed up with Ulrike to maximise our complementary skills. It is always our aim at Snowball to give participants practical, relevant tools to help tackle everyday, work-related issues and we are flexible in our approach. My particular focus is on leadership, people management skills, transitions, coaching, creativity and presentation. I work with both groups and individuals.

Since graduating, I have lived in the Middle East, Switzerland, Holland, Germany and now France . My work has taken me much further afield – to the Far East, South and Central America, India and Bangladesh, North and South Africa as well as all over Europe . Although I am English, I prefer to see myself as European. I speak French, German, Dutch and Spanish, and I remain fascinated by how different people and cultures communicate.

I graduated from Durham University in the UK in 1981, where I studied French and German literature. After that I did an RSA teaching qualification. I am also qualified to use psychometric tests such as the Myers Briggs Type Indicator and am an NLP practitioner and ICF certified coach. I currently live in Chamonix, France , where I indulge my passion for mountains.

How do you become a great leader? Motivate a team and keep them motivated? Make the right decision, especially when under stress? Analyse risk and have the courage of one’s convictions? These are aspects of the complexity and richness of human nature that have always fascinated me.

My worldwide experience as a high mountain guide, professional extreme skier and expedition leader has encouraged me to dig deeper with these questions and to translate them into the business context of both management and leadership. My focus during lectures and workshops is to give keys to the answers.

I enjoy coaching and training people – helping them to go further than they think they are capable – both in sport and business. The main theme running through my life is to share my 20 years’ experience as a mountain guide. I do this through journalism, photography and, above all, speaking at conferences, where I make the link between mountains and the business world.

I was on the board of the SNGM (French National Association of Mountain Guides) for 9 years and Vice President for 3 years. I am French, speak English and live in Chamonix.

When I was studying abroad and working for multinational companies, I always regretted that nobody had ever told me how to interact with other cultures to make the best of my work experience in an intercultural setting. This is why I decided to create my own consulting firm to help people who are moving to a new country enjoy their expatriation or their multicultural work teams and to capitalize on their cultural differences. I have been an intercultural consultant for the past 6 years in the US and in France.

I studied in an international business school (Institut Supérieur de Gestion) in Paris, New York, Tokyo and Seoul and earned an advanced degree in management, marketing and finance. After extensive experience in international companies where I was involved in a wide range of responsibilities including sales, marketing, training, management, computers and finance, I moved to New York in 1994. There I created my own company in translation and intercultural communications. During those years in the United States, I discovered the challenges and opportunities that arise when living overseas. I also developed a keen awareness of cultural differences and their consequences on social and business relationships. Since that time, I regularly conduct cross-cultural training sessions in areas such as expatriate programmes, cross-cultural negotiations training, intercultural teambuilding, and how to conduct business in specific target countries.

Having moved back to France in 2002 with my American husband and 2 children, I now experience cross-cultural challenges in my business life as well as my personal life and I love it. I also decided to leverage further my personal experience in sales and marketing to conduct training in intercultural management, sales and communication techniques.
